Constipation

It is an abdominal disorder. Our digestive system involves the organ mouth, throat, Esophagus, Stomach, Small intestine, Large intestine, Rectum, and Anus. It also involves organs of digestion such as the Liver, Pancreas, and Gallbladder. Ayurveda is able to cope with an increasing number of digestive system disorders. In this disease, one does not feel the urge to pass the stool. It is one’s inability to perform normal bowel evacuations. clearance of the bowel is delayed even for days. The stool is hard, dry, and difficult to expel. Generally, bowels should be cleared every 12 hours. If it does not happen so in 12 hours, it must be cleared in 24 hours. If it is not even cleared in 24 hours, that means the person is suffering from constipation. 

Symptoms

Causes

  1. Irregular food habits.
  2. Rich, fried, oily and spicy foods.
  3. Low-fiber food.
  4. Inadequate exercise.
  5. Extra consumption of tea/ coffee
  6. Smoking
  7. Hormonal disorder
  8. Sleeplessness
  9. Irregular lifestyle.
  10. Highly refined food.
  11. Drinking less water.
  12. Fast food.
  13. Mental labor.
  14. Advance age.
  15. Stressful life.
  16. Consumption of medicines.

Ayurvedic way of Constipation Treatment

Constipation is called Malavashtambh or Badhakoshtata in Ayurveda. It is by unbalancing of vata dosha/ pitta dosha/ kapha dosha or tridosha. This may be acute or chronic. It is very easily treatable by ayurvedic medicines and panchakarma therapy. Vata pradhan constipation is relieved by anuvasan and niruha basti. Pitta pradhan constipation is relieved by virechan and kapha pradhan needs vaman
It is the root cause of many chronic diseases like piles, arthritis, obesity, etc. Mild constipation-relieving herbs are always used in every disease. High blood pressure is also managed by constipation-relieving herbs like castor, hirda, behda, and sonamukhi. 
Basti(Medicated Enema) and Virechan are two main panchakarma procedures always used for constipation treatment. Before Basti and virechan panchkarma sarvang abhyang(Full body massage) and sarvang swedan(Steam bath) are recommended. Yogasanas like bhushirasan, pavanmuktasan, bhujangasan, Naukasan always proves helpful.
