Sexual dysfunction in males is very common problem now a days. Sexual dysfunction is improper sexual activity, less sexual activity or erection problems i.e. Erectile Dysfunction, Premature Ejaculation (PE), and low libido (Less desire towards sex).
Sexual dysfunction is a physical or a psychological problem in which satisfaction not occurs to male or female or both partner.
Male infertility and male sexual dysfunction are two different conditions. Male dysfunction is may be a cause of infertility.
Sperm defects like low sperm count (Oligospermia), Defective sperms (Asthenospermia), absence of sperms (Azoospermia) are also include in male sexual dysfunction.
All over the world, ayurvedic medicines are use to treat sexual problems in both males and females. “Vajikaran” is the separate branch of Ayurveda form to describe the disease, causes and treatment of male sexual dysfunction.
Sexual dysfunction in males is described as a “Klaibya” in Ayurveda. Klaibya are of 4 types- Bijopghataj, dhvajopghataj, jarasambhavaj, shukrakshayaj. In the Klaibya, lingshaithilya occurs before orgasm.

1. Erectile Dysfunction –
Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which proper erection of penis not occur during sexual activity. The causes of Erectile dysfunction are stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, tobacco chewing, High blood pressure, atherosclerosis, indulgence in masturbation, unhealthy relationship, low confidence level, etc. Obesity, chain smoking and stress are major contributing factors for erectile dysfunction.
Low testosterone level is the major cause behind the erectile dysfunction. Testosterone is a male sex hormone. Above said causes are responsible for less production of testosterone.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is also called as impotence. Erectile dysfunction create stress in relationship, confidence level decreases and affects the performance. It creates the anxiety regarding sexual performance.
Ayurvedic medicines and panchkarma treatment therapies get world wide acceptance for treating erectile dysfunction. Herbs like ashwagandha, vidari, gokshur, safed musali, salampanja used to treat erectile dysfunction. Commonly used ayurvedic medicines are kauchapak, Chandraprabha, Klaibyahar vati, pushpadhanva, manmantabhra ras, etc. Ayurvedic Panchakarma therapies suggested according to the body constitution. Vaman, Virechan, Basti chikitsa is used according to dosha’s. Ashwagandha oil uttar basti gives excellent results in erectile dysfunction. Shirodhara also helps to relieves anxiety state.

2. Premature Ejaculation/ Early Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation means ejaculation of semen occurs in very short time of period in the beginning of sexual intercourse. Orgasm i.e. peak level of enjoyment in sex not occur in both partners.
Premature ejaculation is very common problem now a days. Two out of four males are suffering from this problem. In PE Brain, nerves, glands, muscles, mind are involve. Anxiety, stress, smoking, obesity, high sugar level, disturb lifestyle, oily spicy food habits, excessive masturbation, excess indulgence of mind towards sex are some responsible factors for premature ejaculation.
Premature ejaculation is may be a cause of infertility in some cases. Defects in the sperm usually found along with PE.
According to Ayurveda, body heat i.e. pitta dosh prakop is responsible for premature ejaculation. Excessive heat liqifies the semen that’s why semen comes early through the penis before orgasm. Herbs like jatiphal, ashwagandha, karskar, elaichi, jeshthamadha, safed musali commonly used. Makardhvaj, pushpadhanva, chandraprabha, jatiphaladi gutika, kamini vidravan ras, vrushyayog, vishtinduk vati used according to the body constitution to treat PE. Vaman, Virechan and Basti chikitsa for kapaha, pitta, vata dosh prakruti simultaneously used.

3. Low libido
Low libido means decrease the interest in sexual activities. As the age increases the libido of that person decreases gradually. Man can perform the sexual activity till the age of 60 years but in some persons desire towards the sex or attraction towards the female partner decreases in early age. Low testosterone level is the major reason behind it. Some physical problems may also responsible like diabetics, Parkinson’s, obesity, prostate enlargement, etc.
Loss of interest in partner due to some dispute also a cause of low libido. Stress, anxiety, shift duties, sleeplessness, wrong dietary habits, heavy exercise, some medications are also responsible.
In Ayurveda, libido is described as a shukrakshayaj Klaibya. Some aacharya consider it as manasik, dosh, shukrakshayaj, and vyadhij klaibya. Ayurvedic medicines are very effective for treating libido. Actually, ayurvedic medicines prescribed in rasayan and vajikaran adhyay. Increases the secretion of testosterone. Herbs like ashwagandha, kapikachu, vidari kand, karaskar, bhang, jatiphal, keshar, ahiphen, etc. Increases the libido. Vasant kusumakar ras, chavaynprash, ashwagandha risht, makar dwaj, purnchandroday, rushya vati, etc are used to increase libido as per the body constitution.
