Allergic Rhinitis, Sinusitis

Rhinitis is the chronic inflammatory disorder of the mucous membrane of the nose nasal catarrh. Allergic rhinitis is characterized by watery discharge from the nose often associated with congestion and difficulty in breathing. Rhinitis may be due to nasal allergy, irritation from breathing irritants and pollutants, use of certain toxics medicines. The triggers are all around in form of pollen, dust, mites, smell, etc, especially in monsoon season these are more. These triggers cause persistent sneezing, watery discharge from nose or blockage of nose, headache, and asthmatic attack. Later even a thought of allergen is enough to cause a trigger.

Allergy is a condition of hypersensitivity in certain persons to substances harmless to most individual. Normally the people are able to produce such protective antibodies but in some the capacity is absence. These persons produce antibodies against one or many inoffensive substances and thus are said to be allergic. Basically the symptoms of the allergy is depend on where it takes place.

If it occurs in nose it causes sneezing and running of nose called allergic rhinitis. When it occurs in sinus it causes blockage of nose, thick mucus secretion, headache called allergic sinusitis. And if it occurs in air passage leads to wheezing, coughing, difficulty in breathing called as allergic bronchitis or asthma.

Ayurvedic aspect of allergic Rhinitis, Sinusitis

Both allergic rhinitis and sinusitis are described as PRATISHAY in Ayurveda. It is cough dosh dushti. 6 types of rhinitis are described in Ayurved as – Vataj, Pittaj, Kaphaj, Sannipatik, Raktaj, and Dushta Pratishay.

Rhinitis leads to sinusitis and also chronic cough. Basically sinusitis is describe as Pinus in Ayurveda. The treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis is nearly same. Ayurvedic medicines with panchkarma procedures are surely very beneficial for complete cure. Recurrently these patients are suffer from common cold and cough and mild fever by slight environmental changes due to their low immunity.

Ayurvedic aspect of allergic Rhinitis, Sinusitis

Some dietary changes, lifestyle changes, daily Yogasana, Pranayam, and exercise all things considered for improving dhatuagni which are more beneficial.
Basically Ayurvedic medicine like tribhuvankirti, naagghuti, amrutavati, godantivati, lakshmivilasnarayan ras, etc, are recommended according to body constitution. Herbs like turmeric, ashwagandha, sunth, marich, pippali, etc. to expel out aggravated kapha dosh from nasal cavity and sinus. These herbs are also helps to increase the immunity (body resistance to the diseases).
Vaman means medicated emesis always proves helpful for kapha dosh dushti. Before main vaman procedure 5 days medicated ghrutpan with sarvang abhyang(full body massage) and sarvand swedan(steam bath) advice. 
Nasya panchkarma procedure is the main panchkarma for allergic rhinitis and sinusitis. Nasya is the instillation of medicated oil in nasal cavity. Nadi swed is also recommend for sinusitis. Mrudu virechan is suggested for pitta dosh dushti. Niruha basti is advice for vata dosh dushti. Nadiparikshan is helpful to detect the dosh dushti in that individual. As per our experience, Langhan means complete fasting is very beneficial in treating rhinitis and sinusitis.
